Winners have the choice of the Grand Prize package or the cash out. All trips include transportation from Toronto, accommodations, transfers and taxes for 2 adults.

What are the odds of winning in the Heart&Stroke Lottery?
The odds of winning any prize in the Heart&Stroke Lottery Winter 09/10 are approximately 1 in 3. The lottery industry practice is to calculate the odds by taking the number of tickets sold, divided by the number of prizes available.  That is 240,000 tickets / 68,789 prizes = 3. To keep the odds constant at 1 in 3, each winning token is re -entered into the drum. Best Odds Ever is based on mega charity lotteries in Ontario at the time of printing.
What are the odds of winning a Grand Prize?
The odds of winning a Grand Prize in the Heart&Stroke Lottery are approximately 1 in 24,000 (calculated by taking 240,000 tickets available and dividing by 10 Grand Prizes)
How much are Lottery tickets?
Tickets are only $100 each, or you can buy a 3-pack of tickets for $250. That's a savings of $50!
How can I purchase a Heart&Stroke Lottery ticket?
Tickets are no longer available for the Winter 2009/2010 Lottery.  When tickets sales are available there are 4 easy ways to purchase your ticket.
  1. NEW - Purchase your ticket online at a time convenient to you through our SECURE online site.
  2. Mail - You can fill in the order form on the website or the one you received in the mail and send it to: Heart & Stroke Foundation PO Box 42007 Stan BRM B, Toronto, ON, M7Y 7J7.
  3. Fax - Fax your lottery order form to 1-888-551-5542 (or in Toronto 416-650-7851).
  4. Phone - Call 1-888-551-1111 (or in Toronto 416-661-1511) and one of our customer service agents would be please to help you.
How old do you have to be to purchase a ticket?
Purchasers must be at least 18 years of age. Tickets cannot be purchased in the name of a minor.
Can I purchase a ticket if I live outside of Ontario?
The lottery is intended for Ontario residents only. Ticket buyers must be in Ontario at the time of purchase and tickets must be mailed within Ontario.
How do I purchase my ticket online?
Purchasing lottery tickets online is secure, simply, easy and saves money for the Foundation!  Simply click on the "order online" button and you can order your ticket on our SECURE online site.  You will receive an email confirmation of your ticket request within minutes of ordering. I am trying to order my ticket online and I can’t?
You must be within Ontario to purchase a ticket.  If you are in Ontario and still unable to use our online ordering please call 1-888-513-2092 (in GTA: 416-650-6211) and they would be happy to process your order.
What are the guidelines for purchasing a 3-pack for $250?
Guidelines for purchasing a 3-Pack for $250 are as follows:
  • Only ONE method of payment.
  • Only ONE mailing address. (Must be in Province of Ontario).
  • Only ONE envelope will be mailed containing all 3 tickets.
  • Up to THREE names may be recorded on a ticket. (All three tickets must contain the same information. Tickets cannot be purchase in the name of a minor.)
Who is not eligible to purchase a ticket?
Those NOT eligible to purchase a ticket include the following individuals and all of their immediate family members residing in the same household from purchasing a ticket: Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario Provincial Board of Directors and employees; MiraTel Solutions Inc. employees, and members of licensed gaming suppliers providing services to the lottery program.
Are Lottery tickets tax deductible?
Lottery Tickets are NON -TAX DEDUCTIBLE in accordance with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency policies; charitable lotteries are prohibited from issuing tax receipts for lottery tickets.
Are Lottery winnings taxable?
No, lottery winnings are considered a windfall and not taxable in Canada. For further detail regarding the sale of such goods, please seek professional counsel.
I have misplaced my ticket for the Lottery. Am I still eligible for the draws?
Yes. The official ticket numbers that are issued for the Heart&Stroke Lottery are automatically entered in the draw via printed tokens at the time of purchase. Tickets are mainly intended for your records and are not required to redeem a prize. If your name is drawn, you will receive a notification letter outlining the prize fulfillment process.
I never received my ticket for Lottery. Am I still eligible for the draws?
If you have not received a ticket within 2 weeks of ordering, please contact customer service to ensure that your order has been processed. They can be reached by calling 1-888-513-2092 (Toronto Area: 416 -650 -6211), or email lottery@hsf.on.ca. Please provide your first and last name, your current address and your telephone number. Tickets can not be refunded once the draws commence.
Can I cancel my ticket and get a refund?
Only tickets cancelled before the draws begin will receive a refund, to the amount that was paid for the ticket(s). Once the draws have begun, no refunds are allowed.
What are the key sales deadlines?
  • Friday November 13, 2009: "Trip Around the World" Deadline
  • Friday January 15, 2010: "Live Carefree for a Year" deadline
  • Thursday Feb 4, 2010:  Early Bird Cash Prize Deadline
  • Tuesday Feb 9, 2010: Final Sales Deadline
When are the draws?
  • Trip Around the World Prize Draw will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 8, 2009.
  • Live Carefree for a Year Draw will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday February 2, 2010.
  • Early Bird Cash Prize Draw will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Friday February 19, 2010.
  • Final Draws will be held from 9:00 a.m. Feb 20 - Mar 1, 2010.
  • The Ten (10) Grand Prize Draws will be conducted at Global Television, 81 Barber Greene Rd., Don Mills, Ontario M3C 2A2 on March 2, 2010 from 9:00 am - 2 pm. Top 3 Grand Prizes draws (taped March 2) will be broadcast on March 8, 2010 during Global News from 6:00-7:00 pm.
  • Winners lists will be available March 16, 2010 on our website and major winners names will be listed in the Toronto Star.  Winners lists are available for viewing at all Heart & Stroke Foundation Local offices.
What is the" Trip Around the World" Prize?
The Trip Around the World prize includes:
  • Around the world Airfare for 2 adults for 23 days to seven destinations (Los Angeles, Tahiti, Auckland, Sydney, Bali, Bangkok, Athens). Departure from Toronto.
  • First class accommodations
  • Sightseeing and Daily breakfast in each city
  • Includes all transfers and taxes
  • Total retail value is $29,000 OR a cash out value of $25,230
What is the "Live Carefree for a year" Prize?
Just imagine $92,463 to cover you living expenses.  The Live Carefree for a year prize includes:
  • 2010 smart fortwo passion cabriolet ($25,463)
  • $7000 in cash for free gas
  • $5,000 in cash for free groceries
  • loaded credit card worth $25,000
  • Cash of $30,000
  • Total retail value is $92,463 OR a cash out value of $86,656
How will I know if I've won a prize?
On Tuesday March 16th 2010, major winners will be announced in the Toronto Star. The complete winners list will be also be available online at www.heartandstroke.ca/lottery starting Tuesday March 16th 2010. A printed list will be accessible at local Heart and Stroke Foundation Offices across Ontario. All winners will be notified in writing as to what they have won and how to claim their prize.
How do I claim my prize?
You will receive a letter from the Heart&Stroke Lottery providing you with the exact details on how to claim your prize. If you won and have not received this letter by March 16th, 2010, please call the Customer Service department. They can be reached by calling 1-888-513-2092 (in Toronto: 416-650-6211) or E -mail: lottery@hsf.on.ca. Major winners will be contacted by phone.
How long do I have to claim my prize?
We ask that winners claim their prizes as soon as possible. All prizes must be claimed by March 2, 2011, twelve (12) months after the final draw date. Cheques will be forwarded to the winners of cash prizes.
If I win the car, can I take the cash instead and how much is the cash out?
Yes, you can take the cash instead. Cash equivalent for all vehicles is based on the net cost to the HSFO before all taxes, freight, PDI, gas tax and dealer service fees and is equal to 92.5% of the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price.

If I win one of the electronic, home or lifestyle prizes, can I take the cash instead?
Electronic, Home & Lifestyle prizes must be accepted as awarded with no cash -out option.
When can I expect my prize?
Prizes will be delivered within 2-6 weeks of the draw date. If you have not received your prize by April 1st please call 1-888-513-2092 (Toronto Area: 416-650-6211), or email lottery@hsf.on.ca.
I won two of the same item, can I switch my prize?
Electronic, Lifestyle & Home Prizes must be accepted as awarded as per Alcohol and Gaming regulations. Exchanges of prizes cannot be accommodated.
My prize is damaged/ defective, what do I do?
Please call call 1-888-513-2092 (Toronto Area: 416-650-6211), or email lottery@hsf.on.ca and we can arrange pick up of the item from you at no charge. Please retain the packaging in order to return the prize.
I am going out of the country, what can I do to ensure that I receive my prize?

I am not at this address anymore, can you re-route the delivery to a new address?

I am not home during the day, can you re-route the delivery to another address?
Your shipment is being delivered via Canada post. If you are not home the item will be left for you to pick up at your local post office. It will be held for 10 business days.
I won two prizes but only received one?
Some prizes have been shipped separately. If you have not received your prizes by April 1st, please call 1-888-513-2092 (Toronto Area: 416-650-6211).
I received the wrong prize?

Does my prize come with a warranty?
Yes all prizes come with a standard manufacturer's warranty. Please retain your winner's letter as proof of purchase. If you require another copy of your winners letter please contact 416-489-7111 x471 or 1-888-473-4636.
What happens if a lottery ticket WINNER lives outside of the province of Ontario (as a result of a move after purchasing a ticket)?
Vehicle Prizes
For those lottery ticket holders who live outside of the province of Ontario that have won a vehicle prize and wish to take the vehicle and not the cash out alternative, the Heart&Stroke Lottery requires that the winner return to Ontario to pick up their prize from the Heart and Stroke Foundation Provincial Office or the Area Office of the winners choice.
Cash over $1000
For lottery ticket holders who have won a major cash prize valued over $1,000 or who choose the cash out option offered on some prizes, the Heart&Stroke Lottery will require that the winner pick up their prize from a registered Purolator Retail Centre located closest to them. The winner will be required to provide proper photo identification before the package will be released.
Electronic, Home and Lifestyle Prizes
For those lottery winners with delivery addresses outside of the province of Ontario that have won a Electronic, Home and Lifestyle Prize, the Heart&Stroke Lottery will ship the Electronic, Home and Lifestyle Prize to the primary ticket holder directly as long as they are within Canada. Lottery winners with addresses outside of Canada that have won a Electronic, Home and Lifestyle Prize must provide an alternate Canadian shipping address. Unfortunately, the Heart&Stroke Lottery can't ship Electronic, Home and Lifestyle Prizes outside of Canada.

With 1 in 3 Canadian deaths attributed to heart disease and stroke your help makes a lot of dreams come true.  Every ticket purchased helps save live, improves survival rates and inspires hope for longer and healthier lives. Thanks to your support we fund more than 450 research teams in local hospitals, universities and research institutions in communities across Ontario. Critical areas of focus include:
  • Getting Ontarians' high blood pressure under control
  • Increasing awareness and knowledge about the health effects of being overweight and obesity.
  • Educating Ontario and health care professionals about prevention and management of heart disease and stroke
